If the upper oven will not heat

This applies to the 721 electric range. In normal use its display only reveals F3, F9 and F19. The manual works from the outlet inward:

  • Test whether the lower oven and the surface burners heat.
  • When none of them do, look at the house breakers. The range might be receiving 120 volts when its elements need 240 volts. Reset both breakers, as a tripped one is hard to spot.
  • Still cold? Unplug the range, inspect the cord connections on the terminal block, tighten any loose wire and swap a damaged power cord.
  • With cord and breakers in order, the work moves to a service technician, since live voltage testing is dangerous if done wrongly.
  • If only upper elements are cold, the manual points to the harness between the upper bake element and the relay control board, plus resistance readings on the bake element and upper oven temperature sensor, which a technician takes.

If the door lock failed

For the 362 and the 790 models, power the range down by unplugging it. Tighten loose connections in the harness running from the oven door lock assembly to the electronic control board. A damaged harness gets replaced, and so does a damaged lock assembly. On 790 ranges a technician additionally measures the lock switch and lock motor with a meter.
