An F92 on a Kenmore range can mean two things. Check your model first.

  • 790 prefix self-cleaning electric (2004 and newer) or 2014 self-cleaning electric: the oven door stayed open longer than the time limit.
  • Glass touch freestanding electric, or Elite slide-in gas or dual-fuel (790.3263, 790.3264, 790.4260, 790.4261, 790.4275, 790.4276): an oven door lock failure.

Checks by a technician on the first group

  1. Wiring from the electronic oven control board to the lock motor microswitch.
  2. Binding of the latch cam, lock motor rod and lock motor cam.
  3. Lock motor coil: replace the lock motor assembly if it is open.
  4. A motor that runs on while the microswitch is open: replace the oven door latch motor assembly.
  5. An open oven door light switch: replace it.
  6. Still unsolved: replace the electronic oven control board.

What you can do on the second group

If the door will not lock or unlock, turn off power, wait half a minute, then turn it on. Try the lockout feature or a clean cycle again. Pressing cancel is the manual’s way to release a door that stayed locked. When you hear no motor, unplug the range and check the connections of the harness joining the door lock assembly and the oven control board. A harness with damage is replaced. If wiring is sound, expect the door lock assembly to be replaced, then the relay control board if the trouble goes on.
